It's Short...Go On and Read It: Science

Seven points to ponder from James M Taylor of the Chicago Sun Times.

Not Again

It's censorship. Three reasons why the "Fairness Doctrine" is anything but fair:

"If the fairness standard is reinstituted, the result will not be easier access for controversial views. It will instead be self-censorship, as stations seek to avoid requirements that they broadcast specific opposing views. With the wide diversity of views available today in the expanding broadcast system, there is a simple solution for any family seeking an alternative viewpoint or for any lawmaker irritated by a pugnacious talk-show host. Turn the dial."
(From the Heritage Foundation's Adam Thierer)

And from David Limbaugh:
"What is truly scary is that liberals believe that media outlets predominately presenting their viewpoint are not biased. To them, the liberal viewpoint is objectively correct -- the only proper way to view the world -- and the conservative one, aberrant and reality-challenged, not even deserving of First Amendment protection. Perhaps a slight exaggeration, but not much."

Don't be fooled. Let the market decide. You can always turn it off or change the station. Don't get me started...

We Want One

Can we get our own cut-off low pressure area? Oklahoma and Texas need some relief and Florida would only be too happy to take some of those excess rain totals. They've had a bad two weeks, haven't they? Although, you know what they say: Be careful what you wish for.

Downhill From Now On, Larry

Larry King it's time to hang-up your suspenders and hit the rocking chair. Did he just run-out of questions? (And no, I didn't watch the interview, but they played this really beyond stupid bite on my news-radio station as I was driving to work this morning. ) Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Larry King and Paris Hilton:

"KING: Did you have emotional visits?
HILTON: Every visit when my family came was really emotional, especially on Father’s Day, because we’re a really close family and (inaudible) to have to talk behind glass, you know, no matter what you’re there for.
KING: I’ve been to prisons. I’ve interviewed people in prison. That’s tough. Do you touch hands? The hands touch the glass?
HILTON: Yes. I did that every time. I just — it was the first Father’s Day I couldn’t give my dad a hug. And that was really hard on me.
KING: Why do you think they have that rule? (Umm...maybe because it was a JAIL?????)
HILTON: I can understand the dangers in that with some of the inmates, you know, because… (I'm SO glad he asked me about security measures.)
KING: Passing things.
(Ya think?? It's a JAIL, not a hotel, Larry. Do you think Paris has special insights into security for penal institutions and should be consulted about security policies for prisons????)

HILTON: Yes, do that, and maybe be interrupting things like that. So I wouldn’t expect to be treated any different than anyone else, you know."

Why do you think they have that rule????? I do recognize a good rant when I see it, even when I'm the one doing the ranting.

Driving To Work This Morning

I stopped at our local Winn Dixie parking lot this morning to snap theis picture of the sun coming up. It looked even better a little earlier but traffic wouldn't allow me to stop for pics. Hoping our Oklahoma folks will share some of their summer showers.

Robert D Novak Reports

"The outlook for the Republican presidential nomination increasingly looks like a shoot-out between former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney. The nominal front-runner, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, suffered a terrible week last week, and the previously presumed establishment candidate, Arizona Sen. John McCain, is fading badly."

Tons of Clips From Broadway

Another new site for me. I can't be in NY, but this site has a You Tube index of lots of musical video performaces from various venues. It's BlueGobo. Enjoy.

P2P

Wikipedia has a great comparison page of different P2P sites.

Dixie Missed Her Family

Not great quality, but taken with my phone and auto-blogged. This photo was taken of Dixie as we ran errands in town. Cory and Danielle were in Captiva and grandma took care of the wee one. (I need a better camera in my cell if I'm going to Mobile Blog.)

No Tropical System Required

Taken just before a downpour from my front porch. We don't need a storm with a name to have a soaker now and then. This was long before sunset, but it was almost completely dark outside.

Walt Disney World Radio Podcast

Who knew? Thousands of "Disney-ites" probably already found this little gem. It never fails to amaze me how many people are completely and totally smitten with Walt Disney World. This podcast is quite topical and informative.

Shaking My Head

"President Bush was so buoyed by the warm reception he was given in Albania that he immediately gave all 3 million Albanians American citizenship, provided they learn Spanish. The offer was withdrawn when Bush found out most Albanians haven't broken any U.S. laws."
~Ann Coulter
This might be funny if it wasn't so "not" funny.

Major Groaner

Two blond girls were working for the city public works department. One would dig a hole and the other would follow behind her and fill the hole in. They worked up one side of the street, then down the other, then moved on to the next street, working furiously all day without rest, one girl digging a hole, the other girl filling it in again.
An onlooker was amazed at their hard work, but couldn't understand what they were doing. So he asked the hole digger, "I'm impressed by the effort you two are putting in to your work, but I don't get it-- why do you dig a hole, only to have your partner follow behind and fill it up again?"
The hole digger wiped her brow and sighed, "Well, I suppose it probably looks odd because we're normally a three-person team.
But today the girl who puts the trees in the holes called in sick.

Note To Self # 247

When Earthlink/Brighthouse manages to sort-out my cable Internet connection I'll have more to say and more pics to post. The service has been more down-and-out than up-and-running since Thursday evening. I assure you the "proper authorities" have been notified. (LOL) Me without my Internet is one sad puppy. MTC (more to come.)

Three Good Ones

From Ann Coulter's latest column: (It's about immigration, what else?)

"If liberals think Iraqis are genetically incapable of pulling off even the most rudimentary form of democracy, why do they believe 50 million Mexicans will magically become good Americans, imbued in the nation's history and culture, upon crossing the Rio Grande? Maybe we should dunk Iraqis in the Rio and see what happens."

"You can leave the country, you can renounce your citizenship -- but you still owe taxes for 10 years. The government does not allow us to stop supporting welfare recipients in America, millions more of whom it plans to import under Bush's bill. That's not a free market -- it's a roach motel."

In Samuel P. Huntington's book "Who Are We? The Challenges to America's National Identity," he asks: "Would America be the America it is today if in the 17th and 18th centuries it had been settled not by British Protestants but by French, Spanish or Portuguese Catholics? The answer is no. It would not be America; it would be Quebec, Mexico or Brazil."

Aonica and Tre's Florida Vacation; Part One

Brooke and Tre spotting the female gators used for breeding at Gatorland. Big ones, no joke.
Tre feeding a carrot to a HUGE turtle. They said this fellow was probably 80 years old.
Tre feeding a deer at Gatorland. (One of his favorite parts.)

Tre and Aonica at Gatorland May 23, 2007. Brooke and I accompanied Aonica and Tre to start-off their Florida vacation. We had a great time. Gatorland was recently damaged by a serious fire is getting back to normal. The alligators are always awesome. I don't have pics of every day of their vacation, because I had to work a couple of days. However, more to come. (Yes, I made a CD of all my photos to send to Aonica, her dad and Grandpa Bill. I'll put those in the mail shortly.)
