McCain Made Me Do It

Today I officially filed papers to change my political party affiliation from Repulican to Libertarian. Why? John McCain. 'Nuff said.

Thomas Sowell Is My New Hero

"What is amazing this year is how many people have bought the fundamentally childish notion that, if you don't like the way things are going, the answer is to write a blank check for generic "change," empowering someone chosen not on the basis of any track record but on the basis of his skill with words."

"Government bailouts are like potato chips: You can't stop with just one."

"Although most of the mainstream media are still swooning over Barack Obama, a few critics are calling the things he advocates "naive." But that assumes that he is trying to solve the country's problems. If he is trying to solve his own problem of getting elected, then he is telling the voters just what they want to hear. That is not naive but shrewd and cynical."
Currently Sowell is a senior fellow at the Hoover Institute in Stanford, Calif.

Today's Word

pusillanimous
\pyoo-suh-LAN-uh-muhs\,
adjective:Lacking in courage and resolution; contemptibly fearful; cowardly.

The Kindness of Strangers

Someone was kind enough to post the BBC series "Lark Rise To Candleford" on YouTube. I've been waiting for this one for a while now. The series was adapted from one of my favorite novels of all time by Flora Thompson. Heaven only knows when BBC America will see fit to send it over to us. It's not even on CD yet on Netflix. Thank you, fandsfan, for posting. Just in case you'd like to share in my happiness, I'm posting the first part of the first episode.

Richard, Eject This Man!

This is one of my favorite Hyacinth moments. I don't think they ever had another scene where Richard actually screamed at Hyacinth. This is priceless.

One more for good measure.
Hyacinth: "...brilliant IQ struguling with senility."
My bud Onslow: "Bad luck? When we live like this how can you be scared of bad luck?"
Hyacinth: "How inconsiderate of people to die at the weekend."
She's something else.

"Has Weleetka Changed?"

Included is a interview with this blogger's dear baby brother, Don. He's Donnie to family. Again, too bad this subject matter was so very sad and the heinous murders as of yet, unsolved.

ALASKA!

Here are some pics of Cory and Danille from their Alaska land and cruise trip in June. I don't have descriptions of the locale, but I'm fairly sure the mountain looming in the distance in the fourth pic is Mt. McKinnley. ***(Update: Danielle says the faraway mountain shouded in fog and clouds was not Mt McKinnley, although they did see it and have pics. I'll pass them along shortly.)

I Always Chuckle

Who says conservatives can't laugh at themselves?
Come on, folks, funny is funny.

'Tis True

Tolerance becomes a crime when applied to evil.

With Friends Like These

This is not a joke cover. This is the cover of "The New Yorker." It's supposed to be satire.
Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton says:
“The New Yorker may think, as one of their staff explained to us, that their cover is a satirical lampoon of the caricature Senator Obama's right-wing critics have tried to create. But most readers will see it as tasteless and offensive. And we agree."
I guess I'll read the article, but, jeez, I'm not sure Obama wants these guys on his side.

WOO HOO WE GOT TO MEET SIG!!!

Actually we got to meet Sig, Edgar and Norm Hansen--all three brothers at Puffin's Roost at EPCOT. We stood in line for more than two hours to get our pictures made with them, have them sign our DVD's and pics and shake hands with the Captain and Crew of "The Northwestern" from The Deadliest Catch.

They were so very nice to everyone. It was worth the heat and occasional rain shower. Pics to come. (I have to get them from Disney's Photo Pass and my phone/camera. Can you believe I left the house WITHOUT my little digi. I even set it out so I wouldn't forget and left without it. I really DO need a guardian!)

Makahiki Luau at Sea World

Dwain's supervisor from work invited us to a restaurant in Sea World Friday evening. It was a dinner theatre laua. I can't really remember what they were celebrating, but it was an interesting night out. It's been so long since we've done something NON-Disney.

P.C. Run Amok (The Oklahoman)

Just when you thought political correctness couldn't get more absurd, an organization has protested a police sketch of a "person of interest” in the Weleetka murder case. Reason? The face in the sketch is obviously that of an Indian man.
The Society to Preserve Indigenous Rights and Indigenous Traditions says the sketch is harmful to the American Indian community. Police are searching for the killers of two Weleetka girls whose bodies were found June 8. Witnesses worked with a police artist to prepare a sketch of a man who may know something about the case. Police have an obligation to prepare and release sketches of suspects or "persons of interest.”
The protesting group said it was overly generic and "could be probably 10,000 Indian men in Oklahoma.” What would the group have the police do, alter the sketch to avoid offense? This absurd protest must grieve the families of the two girls.
(I'm sure the parents, grandparents, friends and families of the little dead girls are REALLY worried about "OFFENDING" someone. Two little girls are dead and you are SERIOUSLY worrrying that the police sketch will OFFEND someone??? Give it a rest and SHUT UP!)

Cough! Cough!

Oops. Somebody forgot to screen "An Inconvenient Truth" in China.
Smog in Beijing five times over safety limit as Olympics nears!!
Then there is all that green algae.
Then there was the earthquake.
The torch protesters.
China can't catch a break.
David Powell of Ocean City, NJ says,
"Don't worry the darn (my word) "Global Warming" activists will find a way
to blame America for it, they blame us for everything anyway."
True, true.

Keeping A Watchful Eye

No one is overly concerned about this one, being so far-out in the Atlantic and all. But we watch it, don't we? After all, she's not even a hurricane yet.

Ebony Says

He's a sharp-dressed man, he's a handsome man with rather prominent ears.
Actually, to me, he looks like a Secret Service Agent.
America is all about cool.
Poor John McCain definitley isn't on ANY cool list.

Going To Extremes For Male Heir???

A 70-YEAR-OLD Indian woman has become the world’s oldest mum after giving birth to twins.
The twins grown sisters who were not deemed fit to oversee their parent's estate, will be taking care of those young tykes when the parents are long gone.
Just because your 70 doesn't mean you're wise.
Crazy is crazy at any age.

Disney Vs. State of Florida

A new law just went on the books in Florida that says people are allowed to bring their guns to work, but it's not the case at Central Florida's largest employer.

A statement from Disney Wednesday afternoon says:

"This new Florida Law does not apply to most areas of our Company, as all Walt Disney World Co. owned and leased properties are exempt from the new Florida law. We are not alone. Several types of institutions and businesses are exempt from the legislation – including properties owned or leased by an employer with permits for the manufacture and/or storage combustible materials such as fireworks. As you know, the safety of our Cast and Guests is our top priority and we don't what that to be compromised. We will continue to maintain our zero tolerance policy for guns and workplace violence on Walt Disney World Co. property."

He Can Talk The Talk

Money Talks

"Barack Obama has vowed to make equal pay for women a priority if elected president and even told supporters in New Mexico last week, "McCain is an honorable man... but when you look at our records and our plans on issues that matter to working women, the choice could not be clearer. It starts with equal pay."

But Cybercast News cites a report from the secretary of the Senate which says women working in Obama's Senate office were paid, on average, about $6,000 less than men. And, of the five people in Obama's office who earn more than $100,000 a year, only one is a woman.

But in John McCain's Senate office, the average pay for women is $2,500 more than men."

What? Obama doesn't DO as he SAYS?
